The Thai Diamond Trilogy - Perfect Last Minute Christmas Present

Looking for a last minute present.  Why not download the Thai Diamond Trilogy from Bangkok Books

Rough Diamonds
Somrot Weangmakham is persuaded by his brother to go and work at Diamond Boys when it opened. He agreed on condition that he only did the shows. Surit told him that going with customers was not compulsory, but that he really needed some help to get the shows started. Somrot, ‘Rot’ as he was known, was not worried; he just did not want his brother to know. He knew the rough end of the trade, but that was a secret. ‘Rit’ could never be allowed to know what had happened in Bangkok. There is something about the Diamond guys, whether it is fresh faced Run, straight from the village, or Cap who had done his round of the bars and a bond would tie them. They endure all that Pattaya has to throw at them, including death and rape. They come through it all stronger, harder and more determined. Cap and Run use every tool at their disposal to save enough money to escape Pattaya and build a new future in Udon. Two Farangs, Michael Barnard and Geoffrey Shotton befriend the guys and help them along their way. Geoff supports Cap and Run in their battle to move north, whilst Mike befriends Rit and Rot. Even when Rot leaves for the army they remain close. One of their number dies and guides their futures from beyond the grave. Their guardian spirit will only rest once they have accepted their fates and built a future, but they have to work out his riddles. Rough Diamonds is set in Pattaya and Isaan.

Diamond Fellowship
The guys are back and on a mission. Keng completes his task of helping his friends find their futures and is finally free to move on. As friendships are renewed, the Diamonds set down a path that will see them change the face of Diamond Boys, and Pattaya. They gain revenge on some of those who crossed, exploited and abused them in their youth. To get there they have to work undercover for the police to expose a side of Thailand a lot of them were once part of, the side the Thailand where they lost their innocence. In many ways it was all for Keng, their soul mate, who started young and died at 20.Rot finally declares his feelings, ones that he has hidden from everyone but Mike and, together with Run, leads the Diamonds towards the bright future. The pivotal event in the Thai Diamonds books is Rit’s night at the Hilton. Whilst Rough Diamonds tells the story up to that night, Diamond Fellowship is a fast-paced account of the three months that follow it.

Shopping
Judy pretended to be angry when Mike called in the morning to say David had arrived early, was staying with them and that the meeting at 12 was at the office, not in town.
When she knocked at the door, David called out “Come in dearest mother, Rot and Uncle tell me you’ve been bossing them about.”
Oot said ‘That’s one more!”
David smiled and told Mike he kept forgetting.
Judy ignored the banter.  “David, you aren’t supposed to be here for another three days, but now you are you can work.  dj when are you next at the hospital?”
“After tomorrow.”
“Take David.  I’m sure he won’t mind a night on the floor and might learn something.”
dj whispered he’d explain later.
“dj pay attention!  This afternoon you need to get the outfits for the party.  Rot, I’ve transferred money to your bank.  Meanwhile there is a shopping list for Steve, Mike and, as he’s joined us, David.  Everyone at Todd’s at five.  I’m going to check the lists in case there is anything else I need from England.  I’ll take a motorbike to Todd’s, but one of you can drive it home.”
Mike took the list retreated with Steve and David to a pick up and drove to Starbucks for a coffee.
“Mum’s driving a motorbike into town?”
“It’s what you’d call a scooter, but yes.  Got a feeling she might take the old one though as it’s usually monopolised by the guys.  She’s even taken her driving test.  She is insisting there are some presents under the tree, assuming there will be a tree, and wants to be sure the kids have proper cameras.”
Mike thought.  “Cameras are easy, we’ll go to Tukcom.  I’ll call Run for ideas on presents.”
Whilst Mike was on the phone, Steve asked David if he had ever done drag as, if he was up to it, and the guys could train them, he thought maybe at the Street Party they could do a number, the five of them.
“I haven’t since university, but if we can get the outfits, why not.”
Mike finished the call.  “Judy won’t be happy, but presents sorted.  Run is at an important temple and he’ll buy Buddhist amulets for everyone.  They will wrap them and get some other local gifts for the visitors.  I’ll go and transfer money now.”
Steve saw the look on David’s face and told him that as soon as Mike pressed confirm, Run would have the money.
“But what about the Thais, I know they don’t do Christmas, but they should have something.”
Mike thought.  “The guys are football mad.  If I tell you the teams, can you get Stephen and Richard to bring original shirts from the UK?  That leaves Mook and Toi and I have no idea what to buy Thai ladies.”
“When I call Richard, I’ll task Kate and Sue.  Are you up to doing a drag number at New Year if we can get the costumes?”
“Why not, the place we get the ladyboy costumes will do them and we have time now that we’ve delegated present shopping.  Let’s get the cameras, sort the costumes and head for a beer.  Judy didn’t say David couldn’t enjoy his working holiday.”
They finished their coffees, went, bought four cameras and were measured for costumes.  They asked for two additional ones about David’s size.  It was only three so they headed to an Irish bar for a beer.
“Dad.  You in drag and mum on a motorbike, is there something you haven’t told us?”
“Hey, we are enjoying ourselves and spending your inheritance.  How are you finding your new Thai family?”
“Fine.  I am sure the kids are going to be surprised!  They are as nervous as hell and I keep thinking I should call them.”
“Let them be, you can enjoy the fun.  Just one thing, I have been going through Christmas accommodation with Cap.  David, you are currently in the ‘Boys Dorm’ on the 24th and 25th.”
“Dorm?”
“Currently you two, the kids and 13 Thais are at Hum and Ton’s, it could be more.”
“That’s fine.  I’ll get another beer and then you can tell me about New Year.”
As he was about to get up, Mike told him to sit down, caught a waiters eye and indicated three more.  “You’re not in a British pub, they serve us and you pay at the end.”
It took Steve about 10 minutes to outline the plans.  “It’s just a big party that happens to be live on TV.  I can’t have Mike being the only family member who is a TV star.”
You know Dad, I really did not know what to expect.  You seem relaxed and I really like Rot.  Uncle, how did you find him?”
“And that’s one more.”  Mike explained to Steve that he had told David to either call him Mike or Rot uncle.  The guys were keeping track and had a punishment in mind if he didn’t learn.
“Well that now goes for Judy and me now.  It will get too confusing for the Thai’s otherwise.  First names only.”
“Okay Da… sorry Steve.  Now when do I get to see these videos?”
“Tomorrow, if Judy gives us some time!  But Mike and I have a plan for that.”
They sat relaxing and chatting.
When they got to Todd’s, Judy demanded to know if the shopping was done.
Mike assured her that if it weren’t, it would be soon.  “Don’t worry Run is buying some traditional Isaan items for everyone.  You can check when you get there.  We have the cameras.  Stephen and Richard are buying presents for the Thais in the UK.  Steve will call them later with the list.  Look, Steve and I know your problem.  Fly to Udon after tomorrow for a few days.  Geoff will meet you.  We’ve booked flights already.  Just leave the wedding to the Thais.”
Judy was about to object.
“Look we know you won’t be happy unless you know everything is sorted up there.  Steve and you can talk daily.  Tomorrow give us our lists of jobs, we’ll split into three teams and get them done.  Either come down when everything is sorted or stay there.  The girls are flying straight up when they arrive.  We’ll take care of the kids.  Rob will act as your chauffeur.  You’ve a room at the resort.  We’ll all fly up on the 24th.”
Rot handed her a piece of paper.  “You need to make sure that Run has completed everything on this list.  If he hasn’t you can spank him.  And here is a list of who is arriving on the 24th from our families.  Cap is in charge of accommodation; make sure he has it sorted.”
Judy nodded.  “Anything else boss?”
“Yes, relax a bit as well.”

First Arrival - Extract from 'Facets of Thai Diamonds'

David called Mike from the airport.  “Hi, I know I’m a couple of days early but I finished in Singapore and decided I may as well come and see what’s going on in Pattaya.  I’m staying at a hotel called Golden Orchid.  I doubt it’s golden, but it’s cheap whilst I sort things out.  Mum said she didn’t want me around the house, not that she knows I’m here yet.  Want to meet me for dinner tonight about five.  We can eat at or near the hotel.”
“Sure.  I’ll tell Rot he’s missing out on his normal fare tonight, I’ll bring him along and we can exchange family news.  Do you have an address, it’s not a name I know.”
“It says Beach Road Soi 4.”
“We’ll find it.  See you at five.”
Mike found somewhere to park near the hotel and they met David in the bar.
“David, meet Rot.  Rot, David is my youngest nephew, the gay one.  Let’s eat here. It can’t be as bad as some of the places round here.  If you are awake, and hungry, later we can have a snack.  I assume you are joining us this evening.”
“Yes, if you’ll help me find another hotel tomorrow.  I think ‘golden’ refers to the fact that the bed sheets are fifty years old.”
Rot sat listening as David and Mike chatted.  He suggested another beer and that they got the menu and ordered some food.  Mike went to the toilet.
“So David, what you want to do when you are here?  At least until Judy finds you some jobs to do!”
“Relax, have some fun and get to know my new uncle and family and friends.”
“What fun?  Do you want a boy?”
Mike returned at that point.  “Don’t worry, we won’t tell your mother, not that I think she cares any longer.  And get used to the guys, they aren’t shy!”
David laughed and pulled out a brown envelope from his pocket.  “Dad sent me some photos, what was going on.”
Rot grinned. “Oh that’s house rules, but we didn’t let Steve and Judy go beyond swimming suits.”
“Uncle Mike, what have you and Rot done to my mother?”
“Either call me Mike, or Rot ‘Uncle Rot’.  We haven’t done anything.  I think retirement, and Thailand, happened.  Rot explain about house rules and how it started.”
Rot finished by saying that normally Mike was naked as well.
“Is there anything else I should know, mum and dad have kept everyone in the dark about the plans.  I know that there is a wedding on Christmas day; we were all given a list of stuff to bring, and were told that Rot would sort out the wedding outfits.  Other than that we are expecting a usual, boring family Christmas.”
Mike laughed.  “One thing is certain, it won’t be a normal family Christmas, and I doubt you’ll be bored.  You know that you, Stephen and Richard are alone with us when the rest go to Udon before Christmas and we plan a few nights out, but you’ll have to accept visiting a few lady bars.  After Christmas we are bringing the kids down for two nights whilst you old ones stay in Udon.  The Udon crew has suggested you might want to visit Laos.  Tonight we will spend at the bar and Rot will introduce you to the rest of the Pattaya part of your new family.  Rot tell him the rest.”
“The wedding is actually six gay weddings, we are making three TV documentary series and Steve is organising the New Year Street party in the Sois.  Just a normal few weeks.  Have you seen the DVD’s?”
David shook his head.
“We’ll show you tomorrow at the house.  Steve and I are on the board of the TV production company we have set up.  We are producing the three series.  We are also the cameramen.”
Rot turned to Mike and looked.
Mike laughed.  “Whatever.”  He told David that that look meant he had to agree or face nights without sex.
“I don’t care what Judy says, David should come and stay with us, at least until the others arrive.  As long as he doesn’t mind a mattress on the floor in the living area, and who knows we might even all get together and drink after work, Farang Rules.”  Mike looked at him.  “We invented a new rule.  Farang Rules means underwear optional.”
“Is that ok uncle?”
“As Judy had been photographed removing my boyfriends underwear I am past caring.  If do want sex, the guys will help you find someone.  Judy only said no Thai girls.  And I told you, I’m Mike.”
Rot handed David a piece of paper.  “Just so you know I am not the smallest, but don’t show Judy.  Oh and we took part in an undercover police operation that resulted in the arrest of a group of guys who like their boys young.  I’ll get some more beers.  By the way, how old are you?”
“Thirty-seven, why?
“A bit young for me then.  Maybe Rit and Oot.”
David asked Mike if he was sure, now that Rot wasn’t there, about him staying.
Mike nodded.  “And don’t be surprised if the others ask you to share their room.  When the Udon crew is down, we bunk up where we can.  And if I tell you that all this has happened since I moved to Pattaya in September, you’ll understand why I say that you are unlikely to be bored.”
“Fine I’ll move in tonight.  I’m not sure I could sleep here.  As for sex, if I see someone I like I’ll talk to Rot.”

Bangkok Bound - Extract from 'Facets of Thai Diamonds - Publication this week

Seven Years Earlier

Rot arrived at Morchit bus station in northern Bangkok and hoped his uncle would be there to meet him.  Not that he was a real uncle; he was only some friend of his mother’s family.  Still he was offering a job and had somewhere for Rot to stay.  Rot wasn’t sure what the job was, just that his mother had told him to go, work and send money back for Rit’s education every month.  He didn’t mind that too much, but hoped he’d have enough for some fun.  At sixteen, he had needs.
Bangkok!  He’d never been further than Udon.  He was excited, but scared.  He wasn’t even sure if he’d recognize his uncle, but had a phone number.  He found a payphone and made a call.  At the second attempt, it was answered.  A voice told him to stay where he was.  His ‘uncle’ arrived 5 minutes with a young guy.
“Well Rot, you have grown since I last saw you.  This is Oot, you are sharing with him.  One month, one thousand, we’ll take it from your wages.  He’ll explain the job; you are in the same section.”
Rot just nodded.  He was glad to be out of the village, but wondered if he could survive.  Still having someone his age would be good.  He had worried about where he would stay.  Last thing he wanted was to be with his ‘uncle’.  He wanted some freedom.
“You can relax today, start work tomorrow.  Oot will tell you everything.  Let’s get the bus.”  An hour, and three buses, later they arrived at a rundown apartment building.
“Oot, make sure you are both there at six in the morning.  See you Rot.”  That was his introduction to his new life.  Oot led Rot to a second floor room.  Rot looked around.  Apart from a mattress on the floor, there was a small table and a clothes rail.  Oot had a small stove and some cooking stuff on the balcony and there was an old TV.
“Welcome to your home.  I’ve been here three months.  The guy who was here left last week, you get his job and me.  If we cook, we have money for whisky sometimes.  My treat today.”  They sat and chatted.  Rot was relieved to be living with someone his own age, even if he’d never shared a mattress before, except with Rit.
It turned out that Oot was a year younger than Rot and that the work was mainly moving stuff.  “It’s pretty simple, but hard and will give you muscles.  And I assume you like girls.”
Rot nodded.
“I’ve a friend from the village who works in the city at a bar.  End of the month I meet with him and we go out to party.  He pays.  I save my days off.  You can come along as well.”
Rot decided he needed to know a few things.  “So we share the mattress, and costs?”
“Yes.  The last guy suggested we each put money in a pot after we are paid to cover expenses.  I assume you have to send money home, I send three thousand.  If you do the same, we have a thousand each for everything.  You have any money now?”
“About eight hundred.”
“Ok, put five in the pot.  I was paid yesterday and put five in.  We are paid every two weeks.  I have a little extra; there are ways of earning it."
